January 2010

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
-- Martin Luther King Jr.

This Past December...

We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday, full of family, friends, food and many happy memories. We are so excited to welcome the New Year, and with it all of the students new to Northwest Montessori. This past December, everything came together so beautifully for the big Holiday Program. The students worked so hard and we were so proud that so many parents and friends were there to share that special night with us.

January 17th -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The school will close January 18th, the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday to honor the legacy of the man who fought so tirelessly and passionately to secure the civil rights of future generations. Before his assassination in 1968, Dr. King was a brilliant orator, a dedicated clergyman, a Nobel peace prize winner, and a citizen who believed that through non-violence and civil disobedience good people could stand together to make the world a better place.

Why the Montessori Method?...

Encouragement

Of all the gifts that we receive in life, encouragement seems to be one of the greatest. It often makes the difference between failure and success, between giving up and pushing through. The simplest words of encouragement may seem small, but this kind of attention enables children to learn joyfully with confidence in their own innate potential. And once they have that kind of confidence they can continue learning and mastering without comparison and competition with their peers.
