April 2012

"The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic."
-- Bill Cosby

This Past Month...

In March Ms. Ali's class spent time learning about green things and the life cycle of a frog. Ms. Denise's class was treated to a fun presentation on Australia by Glenn McMillan, Liam's dad, while Ms. Sunita's class planted a vegetable garden with squash and cucumbers. These three classes also have been busy preparing for the upcoming Science Fair. Ms. Sharika's students created a beautiful garden of bluebonnets and Ms. Jackie's class culminated their unit on the life cycle of a butterfly by releasing them into the sky. Ms. Malini's class learned about good dental hygiene and the season of spring.

Why the Montessori Method?...

Encouragement

Of all the gifts that we receive in life, encouragement seems to be one of the greatest. It often makes the difference between failure and success, between giving up and pushing through. The simplest words of encouragement may seem small, but this kind of attention enables children to learn joyfully with confidence in their own innate potential. And once they have that kind of confidence they can continue learning and mastering without comparison and competition with their peers.
