April 2013

"The essence of childhood, of course, is play, which my friends and I did endlessly on streets that we reluctantly shared with traffic."
-- Bill Cosby

This Past Month:

In March Ms. Khataw's class spent time learning about the inspiring life of Helen Keller. Ms. Denise's class was treated to an interesting presentation on New Zealand from Jeff & Kirsten's dad, while Ms. Crystal's class learned about Vietnam with a presentation from Luke's mom and about Japan thanks to help from Nanami's mom. Ms. Sunita's students had a lot of fun with their hatchin' grow turtles and Ms. Lindsey's class had a wonderful unit on Dr. Seuss. Ms. Erin's children learned about different shapes and textures while Ms. Malini's class practiced excellent nutrition habits.

Upcoming Events:

  • Saturday, April 13th, 10 - 11am: Food Allergy Presentation
  • Dr. Allen Lieberman will be giving a presentation to the teachers of NWM on how best to deal with food allergies, and all parents are welcome to attend!

  • Monday, April 22nd: Earth Day
  • We will learn about how to take care of our planet Earth by practicing recycling and other fun activities. Make sure to bring a fruit and vegetable in your child's lunch today!

    • Wednesday, May 1st - Ms. Crystal's class
    • Thursday, May 2nd - Ms. Denise's class

This month the children will be working very hard to prepare for the Science Fair that will be at the beginning of May. We look forward to seeing what our scientists can do!

Why the Montessori Method?

Of all the gifts that we receive in life, encouragement seems to be one of the greatest. It often makes the difference between failure and success, between giving up and pushing through. The simplest words of encouragement may seem small, but this kind of attention enables children to learn joyfully with confidence in their own innate potential. And once they have that kind of confidence they can continue learning and mastering without comparison and competition with their peers.
